JSA’s proposed design for the Prescott Park Arts Festival stage will improve the park visitor experience by enhancing the aesthetics of the stage and facilitating delivery of various performing arts events, including the much loved annual musical. The proposed layout provides more open green space for the public to enjoy, improves sight angles for the audience and improves acoustic control for surrounding neighborhoods. The canopy design provides increased safety for the performers from rain and summer sun conditions. For a park nestled within a dense historic neighborhood, the stage is visually buffered from the surrounding structures by trees and garden plantings. The maritime history of Portsmouth is honored by the proposed use of a sail fabric canopy, evocative of Portsmouth's tall ships era.
