Todd Hanson, FAIASince joining JSA more than 30 years ago, Todd, the head of our healthcare studio, has established the firm’s reputation for innovative programming, design sensitivity and client service. Design and creativity are part of who he is: he knew at age 12 that he wanted to be an architect. “I loved to draw and build things,” he says. “Later, I wanted to design things that make a difference in people’s lives.” A graduate of Oklahoma State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, Todd is a thought-leader in healthcare design and a champion for accessible spaces. He has directed many healthcare projects ranging from comprehensive master plans to new psychiatric hospitals to community health clinics. Living with a neuromuscular disease that requires him to use a wheelchair for mobility and an iPad for speech, Todd co-founded Access Navigators, a JSA-based non-profit organization providing reliable accessibility information that helps New England residents with disabilities stay connected to their communities. In 2019, he received the New Hampshire Governor’s Accessibility Award.
Todd speaks nationally and internationally about his experiences but also the importance of his healthcare work. “I love healthcare work, when thoughtful design contributes to relieving stress and anxiety and improves positive outcomes,” he says. A former competitive long distance runner, hiker and skier, Todd serves on the steering committee of the New Hampshire Alliance for Healthy Aging, the accessibility committee for the New England Foundation for the Arts and the organizing committee of the Seacoast Half Marathon, a road race benefitting health and human service nonprofits.
Sandra Hodge, IIDADuring her more than 26 years at JSA, Sandra has touched nearly every type of project JSA has worked on. With strong experience in senior living, hospitality and healthcare, she has an especially deep understanding of the challenges faced by senior living residents, staff, patients and health care workers. Under Sandra’s direction, our interior design staff has won numerous awards and continues to be a key profit center for our firm. Since spring of 2020, Sandra has been assisting clients across the northeast to adapt to changing realities, helping to ensure COVID-safe communities. Her expertise has led to changes in gathering spaces, dining areas and outdoor activity zones. Sandra’s concepts for communities currently in the planning phase reflect new standards in senior living design. An avid skier and hiker, Sandra can often be found hiking or skiing in the White Mountains with her family.
Richard Martz, AIARichard enjoys bringing organization and oversight to complex projects. As a project architect, he views projects on both a micro and macro level, seeing them through from early stages to completion, with a keen eye to detail. “I make sure all the pieces and disciplines of a project come together,” he says. Richard provides holistic oversight to projects, completing the architectural work, making sure the design is maintained and understanding how all the other disciplines interface to ensure pieces fit together. Colleagues have described him as a collaborator who is passionate about making sure each challenge presented to him is executed effectively in a comprehensive manner.
Prior to joining JSA, Richard, a graduate of The Ohio State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, coordinated complex healthcare projects for a large, international architectural firm. So it’s not surprising that one of his favorite JSA projects is Portsmouth’s mixed-use Brick Market. “It’s a complicated project to dive in to,” he says. “I enjoy that.”
Mark Moeller, AIAAs our design principal, Mark brings more than 36 years of design expertise and graphic ability to each of our projects, creating contextual architecture that embraces its surroundings. His work can be seen in JSA projects of all types, from New England to Florida, to Colorado and Utah. Mark works closely with our clients to understand the people they serve and the communities they live in so that he can create designs that are enduring, sustainable, durable and adaptable. His work has won numerous awards from the Design for Aging Review, the American Institute of Architects, and the National Association of Home Builders. A graduate of the University of Minnesota with bachelor’s degrees in architecture and environmental design, Mark received the Rotch Travelling Scholarship from the Boston Society of Architects. As a Rotch Scholar, he traveled throughout the world and documented his travels in a book titled Graphic Reflections. A practitioner of traditional Shotokan Karate, Mark recently attained the rank of Shodan with Shotokan Karate International Federation (SKIF).
Caleb Sloan, AIA, LEED AP, EDACAssociate, Project Manager
Email CalebCaleb has more than 25 years of healthcare planning, design and construction experience, primarily on a variety of complex diagnostic and treatment environments, including behavioral health and medical office buildings. Although his primary job is project management, he builds client relationships and enjoys communicating with the entire team—from property owners to consultants and contractors—to deliver projects and meet expectations. He especially enjoys working on complex healthcare projects. “You need to coordinate many different systems that other building types don’t have,” he says.
A Vermont native who enjoys a variety of outdoor sports, especially with his kids, Caleb was drawn to the New Hampshire Seacoast after receiving his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Cornell University.
William North SturtevantNorth guides the daily operations of our office and heads our education studio. Often leading community charrettes for clients as well as Plan NH, a non-profit planning and development organization, North is a long-time advocate for improving the built environment to enhance community, preserve history and stewardship. North’s technical expertise and his operational vision have helped us become nationally recognized for our work.
A Yale University graduate with a degree in architecture, North volunteers for efforts supporting affordable housing. He sits on the board of 3S Artspace in Portsmouth; the Municipal Technical Assistance Grant committee, funded by New Hampshire Housing; and is a past board president, and current volunteer, with Plan NH. When the weather cooperates, North pilots Gaeriel, a sail boat named for a member of the Rebel Alliance from “Star Wars.”
Pamela Breyer, AIAA creative problem-solver, Pam works with a variety of JSA clients, designing everything from airport hangars to warehouses to senior living communities. Challenging renovations, small quirky projects – those are just a few of the challenges Pam embraces. “I enjoy discovering new products or re-using old products in unexpected ways,” Pam says. She also enjoys chatting with satisfied clients who check in long after a project is finished.
Pam is “mom” to two energetic Vizsla pups who keep her active with long walks through Seacoast New Hampshire’s woods and marshlands.
Erin DoodyAlways ready to assist on projects large and small, Erin is our Revit expert. A versatile team player who’s worked on senior living, housing and mixed-use projects, she often creates the 3D models within projects and handles job captain responsibilities on several of our mixed-use projects. She’s especially enjoyed working on 60 Penhallow, a mixed-use project in downtown Portsmouth, NH. “It’s so different from any other project I’ve worked on,” she says. “It’s had many design challenges and I’ve learned a lot from working on it.”
An avid traveler, Erin received a bachelor’s degree in architectural studies and a master’s degree in architecture from Norwich University.
Renee Dunn, NCIDQLong before receiving her interior design degree from Hesser College and joining the JSA interior design team, Renee understood the impact of design. Thanks to her mother and grandparents’ sense of color and detail, “I had an appreciation for how colors, patterns and the seemingly inconsequential things can impact how you feel and live in a space,” she says. Understanding how all these details fit together is key to Renee’s work at JSA, where her design sense is applied throughout a variety of projects, from senior living and hospitality to multi-family housing and corporate environments. She’s thorough, making sure “I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed both in design and documenting a design,” she says. “I love to introduce new colors and palettes to a space,” she says. A favorite past–time is exploring museums and experimenting with mirror selfies.
Jamie Hathorn, NCIDQAs part of our talented interior design team, Jamie Hathorn appreciates a creative challenge. “I love to work on projects that force me to think outside of the box and challenge my creativity,” she says. A key contributor to our healthcare, corporate and mixed-use projects, Jamie also enjoys designing interior spaces related to high tech equipment (think data centers). She manages interior design projects from start to finish.
A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in interior design and facilities management, Jamie wanted to be a storm chaser when she was young. Now, as an adult, she enjoys coaching youth cheerleading as well as creating and crafting. She’s also a synesthete: when she sees or hears a number or letter, she sees a color. An appropriate trait for a designer.
Daniel Lamb, LEED APDaniel Lamb brings more than 25 years of experience in architecture and construction administration to JSA. A green building expert, Dan joined JSA in 2012. After working for us eight years, he left to work for residential architecture firms in Newburyport and Lowell, MA. He returned to JSA in 2021 and now collaborates on projects from drawings through construction. “I enjoy seeing projects get built,” he says. “Being onsite and working with a contractor and building owner to get to the finish line is very rewarding. A long-time hockey player and sometime runner, Dan received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Boston Architectural College.

Karen is responsible for client billing, payroll and the myriad details that keep our office running smoothly. Before coming to JSA, she worked in senior living community administration. Accounting, numbers and organizational skills are her strengths, but “architecture has always intrigued me,” she says. She’s also an animal-lover and a big Disney fan. Karen received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University.
Luke PerczakA native of Warsaw, Poland, Luke spent part of his childhood in Germany, then lived in Australia and Canada before moving with his family to the United States. Prior to joining JSA, Luke held internships at Utile, Inc., in Boston, MA, and Nelson Edwards Company Architects LLC, in Branford, CT, assisting with coordination of residential projects, from schematic design through design development and construction. A talented woodworker and baker as well as an outdoors enthusiast, Luke received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.
William TuckerTuck, as he’s known around our office, is an architect with over 40 years of experience in architecture and software development. From his pioneering efforts with architecture firms in the early days of CAD, to his work with Bentley Systems introducing BIM, to EVOLV’s web-based project collaboration technology and his work with Fortune 500 companies managing building assets, Tuck has long been at the forefront of software technology for design professionals. He returned to the architecture profession in 2004, joining JSA as chief information officer. He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental design in architecture from the School of Design at North Carolina State University and a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UCLA.
When he’s not helping staff with software or hardware issues, Tuck is on the board of directors of The Chase Home, a Portsmouth, NH, nonprofit serving at-risk youth and families. He’s also a Portsmouth election official and writes, tweets and hosts a radio show about New Hampshire politics.
Jim Warner, FAIAJim Warner, FAIA, founded JSA Design in 1980 with colleague Jim Somes, FAIA. As a firm principal, Jim helped transition JSA into a national firm, establishing our current studio structure. He led our senior living studio to national prominence and his work with environments for dementia, assisted living and retirement communities resulted in his elevation to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. Jim stays connected to our firm’s business development efforts. A long-time cyclist, Jim received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Syracuse University as well as a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy, West Point.
Anne Weidman, CPSMBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
As our director of business development, Anne brings enthusiasm and a true love of community and connection. She keeps an eye on everything happening in the built environment in New England, building relationships with developers, operators, construction companies, engineers, local and state officials, and more. She especially enjoys working on projects that are out of the typical development prototype and enjoys watching projects evolve from sketches to finished buildings. “When a thoughtful neighborhood or project impacts people’s lifestyles, that’s a feel-good moment,” she says.
A volunteer with several Portsmouth-based civic organizations, Anne is on the board of Strawberry Banke Museum and oversees the historic site’s outdoor ice rink. She is also a frequent speaker for Access Navigators, a JSA-based non-profit organization providing reliable accessibility information that helps New England residents with disabilities stay connected to their communities. Anne also enjoys photography, especially experimenting with different effects; she received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and design from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
