Originally built in the late 1800s and subsequently renovated and expanded over the last 120 years, the 26,000 square foot building was made to house the School of Health and Human Services. The original 8,000 square foot brick and heavy timber building was renovated and an additional 26,000 square feet was built to house departmental and faculty offices, simulation rooms, classrooms, lecture halls and computer labs.

Located in the heart of the main campus along the main pedestrian and visual axis, the building was an important background building requiring sensitive response to the existing campus fabric. The new addition borrowed elements, materials and details from the original building, strengthening its character, enhancing the overall context and reinforcing the visual axis to the library.
